Artist/Shoe and Accessory Designer living in NYC
If you enter Valeria’s world, her closet, or her virtual B+T closet, a resounding theme is noticeable–the color blue. Blue has defined Valeria’s essence to such an extent that when she read the answers she sent (she was in Europe at the time of the interview) and she said, “I feel blessed for this wonderful life, Never forget to look up at the magical sky!” all we could think was “and the sky is what color!” She was even featured in New York Magazine for her devotion for monochromatic style.
Blue, a simple color to many, is practically a lifestyle to McCulloch, whose company is called VALBLU. Of her most recent purchase she says, “I am looking forward to fall already, I have commissioned an artisan in spain to make an electric blue nappa leather biker jacket.” Blue is often thought of as a color of serenity and McCulloch seems to have embraced this virtue: “I would never bib my soul or my essence,” she says.
This attitude is in tandem with her daily life. “Wake up, face east, meditate for 20 minutes, either yoga or spinning, sing in the shower, healthy breakfast, write in moleskine journal last night’s dreams or morning thoughts and a To-Do list for the day, answer emails, read news, phone calls, cook lunch, afternoon bike ride through central park, stop by Whole Foods for fresh produce, Skype with my family, get together with friends for tea sometimes, visit an art gallery, watch a performance, a movie, cook dinner and read a good book or sketch ideas, listen to music and wind down the day. A day is never dull, there is always something new to see, and learn!”
