Editor-in-Chief living in New York
Here at Bib + Tuck, as you might have guessed, we like self-starters. So when Rachel Sutton, editor of SHK Magazine told us about her experience launching the downloadable magazine, we knew we’d met one of our own kind. “I felt like I always looking for something like SHK… Something that was advanced in terms of experiencing editorial, but still full of good style and personality. When I couldn’t find that, I came up with and presented the idea to my company (B Culture Media), and then SHK was born! It’s a deserved point of pride for Sutton: “Starting SHK is the coolest career thing ever. I still can’t believe it… I wanted it to happen eventually, but never expected it to happen so quickly.”
When we spoke to Rachel, she was feeling celebratory: “The summer issue of SHK Magazine just went live on iTunes…We’re waiting about one more hour then we’re popping open that champagne.” SHK is all about merging “traditional editorial aesthetics with the quickness of new media,” and presents the content it produces in a quarterly magazine.
Talking about her own style, Rachel notes “I recently styled a shoot with Annabelle Dexter-Jones (for the new issue, might we add!) channeling Blondie (Mick Rock photographed it, so Blondie was appropriate), and so right now I’m obsessed with Debbie Harry’s style circa 1978.”
Though Rachel tells us she sometimes schedules in sleep: this weekend calls for cocktails and celebration. Still, before she tucks in (haha, we know) for bedtime, you’ll find Rachel dancing in her room å la Hannah Horvath to “Taylor Swift. Definitely.” she says, “We are never getting back together… Like, ever.”
